A fob is an adornment or a seal that hangs from the ribbon or chain of a pocket watch. Its purpose is to decorate or add weight to the watch chain itself making it easier for the watch to be withdrawn from a pocket.
A stunning and collectable French watch key fob from the Victorian (ca1880) era! This wonderful piece is made of 15kt rose gold and features a fantastic 3-dimensional barbell-like design. Each side of the long fob has a single bloodstone agate ball that is capped at both ends in a petal-like scalloped design. The two ends unscrew slightly from each other, revealing a watch key to appear from one side. In the middle of the fob is a textured cylindrical center which has a movable center link which also acts as the bail. The link has a double sided design with inlaid bloodstone, completing the beautiful design perfectly. The piece would have originally been worn with dual purposes, acting as a fob as well as a watch winder, however, it would look stunning worn hanging from a long gold chain for modern day wear. The bail is stamped with the French eagles head hallmark. A beautiful and collectable piece, it would make a wonderful addition to any collection!
Measurement: The fob measures approximately 2 5/8" long and the agate balls have a diameter of 5/8".
Condition: The overall condition of the piece is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the gold or bloodstone and the watch key mechanism is in good working condition.
